Pitomača Pitomača is a charming village and municipality in Virovitica-Podravina County, in northeastern Croatia. It is located in a spacious valley between the hills of Bilogora and the Drava River, making it an ideal destination for relaxation, enjoying nature and exploring the rich cultural tradition of Podravina region. Pitomača is the perfect destination for guests and travelers looking for an authentic experience far from the usual tourist routes. With a population of around 10,000 inhabitants, it has preserved the peaceful atmosphere of a small town, ideal for escaping the crowds and asphalt of the city. Among the tourist attractions, we can highlight the Church of St. Vitus, located in the center of Pitomača, and the Interpretation Center of the House of Petar Preradović in Grabrovnica. This modern museum is located in the birthplace of the famous Croatian poet Petar Preradović. It was renovated in 2019 and offers an interactive exhibition about Preradović's life, poetry and the history of the entire region. A special tourist attraction of this part of Podravina is the small picturesque village of Križnica, the only settlement on the left bank of the Drava that can be reached by a suspension footbridge. Its well-preserved, untouched nature and peaceful atmosphere are ideal for relaxing, fishing or tasting Drava fish dishes. Among the tourist activities, we highlight adventures on the Drava River, cycling and hiking on nearby Bilogora. The Drava River, often called the "Amazon of Europe", is a paradise for nature lovers and offers relaxation on sandy beaches, and is part of the Mura-Drava-Danube Biosphere Reserve. The Green heart hiking trail leads to Kula, the highest peak in the Pitomača municipality (288 m) on Bilogora, from which there is a beautiful panoramic view of the Podravina forests and plains. Pitomača is part of the famous Podravina wine region, and local winemakers offer wines such as Graševina and Frankovka. In rural households and local restaurants you can enjoy traditional dishes such as kulen and other cured meats, čobanac (spicy Slavonian goulash), and homemade strudel and cakes.
