Diocletian palace in Split is one of the best-preserved monuments of ancient Roman architecture in Europe, so it is no wonder that it is on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. The palace was built more than 1700 years ago according to the wish of the Roman emperor Diocletian, who, after his retirement from the imperial throne, lived in it until his death (316 AD).
