The city was first mentioned in the 13th century in a document of Ban Stjepan, as a center of trade and court. The life and development of the city were most influenced by the noble Erdödy family who had large estates in this area from the 16th to the 19th century. The castle of the Erdödy family in the city park in the center of Jastrebarsko is the oldest building in the city and one of the biggest tourist attractions. Today in the area of the town of Jastrebarsko live about 16,000 inhabitants in about 60 settlements. Jastrebarsko and its surroundings are a favorite picnic spot because of the beautiful landscapes, nature park Žumberak - Samoborsko mountains, cultural-historical monuments, famous wines, and gourmet specialties.
